More than 500 artists open their East Vancouver studios to the public, including painters, jewellers, furniture makers, potters and more. It’s a great opportunity to buy some holiday gifts! Details and the full lineup of artists is posted on the Eastside Culture Crawl website.

The great outdoors

Corn mazes
Fall is the best time to visit a local farm. Not only will you find all kinds of amazing produce to help you, but many offer fun activities for the entire family, including pumpkin patches and corn mazes. Here’s a list of some of the Lower Mainland’s most creative mazes to puzzle your way out of.

Salmon in action
Take a free, self-guided interpretive tour of the Capilano Salmon Hatchery and learn about the life cycle of a species that has played a critical role in BC’s economy. Fall is a great time for a visit, as you will likely be treated to a view of chinook adults returning up the river to spawn. The hatchery is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Check the website for directions and more details.

Fall colours
Eastern Canada gets all the attention, but the Lower Mainland has its fair share of gorgeous red, orange and yellow fall foliage—you just have to know where to go. Grab your raincoats and Wellies and head out for a walk at one of the urban locals on this list and get ready to be wowed.

Sporty pursuits

Roller skating
If you missed the 1970s roller skating craze don’t despair. The PNE’s Rolla Skate Club has programs for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned skater or brand-new to the sport. With a 20,000 square-foot rink, a DJ and free skate rentals you might just find your new sport.

Halloween run for everyone
Plan your costume and sign up for the city’s inaugural Big Halloween Run on October 30, starting at 6 p.m. The all-ages 1-km dash and 5-km run/walk start at Olympic Village and follow the Seawall. Pets and strollers are welcome.

Grey Cup extravaganza
